The Baleswar district administration held a meeting with the cable operators here on Sunday in connection with the digitisation, the deadline for which has been given till August 15.

Talking to cable operators, ADM Manmath Pani said there was a notification from the Ministry mentioning that all the transmission made in the UlBs and cities would be mandatorily digitised by December end last year. Although it was the target date for third phase notification, yet the same couldn’t be met by operators. As a result the Government was losing revenues through service and entertainment taxes, said Pani.

He further said in Baleswar, Jaleswar, Soro and Nilgiri, where there were about 35,000 cable consumers, yet only 40 percent of them are so far using digital set up box. Since the State Government was committed to implement the digitization, he asked the operators to accelerate the work to achieve the target; else their analog telecast would be stopped   after the deadline. Further the operators would be barred from any kind of telecasting from their control rooms.

A review meeting to assess the progress would again be held on August 6.
