The Fisheries and Animal Resources Development Department would organise a week-long artificial insemination (AI) programme for upgradation of indigenous or ‘desi’ cows from October 2 to 8 by using semen of better indigenous bulls in selected pockets of BAIF and JK
Trust operated areas in the State.
The workshop targeted to cover 10,000 indigenous cows within the stipulated period.
The aim of the workshop is to upgrade the cows genetically so as to increase the milk yield and income of farmers.
The major activities under the programme are Gynaeco-clinical examination of indigenous cows and provision of mineral mixture and deworming medicines for cows to ensure proper care and management and to adopt improved breeding.
Other activities include hormonal induction to animals followed by AI, pregnancy diagnosis, milk recording after birth of the calf etc.
