Can the State Governments join hands to improve the business environment in the countryIJ
Yes, senior officials in the Central Government’s Department of Industrial Policy & Promotion (DIPP) think so. The Government can make it easier for business houses to do business.
With such an idea, a two-day national symposium will be organised by the Odisha Government in association with the DIPP here on August 22 and 23. State Commissioner-cum-Secretary Industries Vishal K Dev is coordinating the programme.
While Union Minister Commerce & Industry Nirmala Sitharaman will be present at the symposium, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik will inaugurate event, where who’s who of the India’s industry and business are likely to turn up.
It is expected that Reliance Industries limited CMD Mukesh Ambani, Tata Group Chairman Cyrus Mistry, Tata Steel MD TV Narendran, Hero MotoCorp’s Pawan Munjal and Accenture India CMD Avinash Vashistha will turn up at the symposium.
Odisha Chief Secretary Gokul Chandra Pati, Union Secretary of Commerce & Industry Rajeev Kher, Union Secretary of DIPP Amitabh Kant and Planning Commission Member Arun Maira will also participate in the symposium.
Many State Governments are trying their best to improve the business environment in their respective States by adopting ‘Best Practices’.
A few Best Practices indentified by the DIPP will be presented in the symposium and those include finance and tax-related compliances, single window clearance system, infrastructure and utilities-related approvals, land and building-related approvals, labor law-related compliances and environmental clearances.
The land-related intervention by Gujarat, single window clearance for industries by Maharashtra and Punjab, laboor management solution by Maharashtra, environmental clearances by the Gujarat Pollution Control Board, integrated and the comprehensive system for managing indirect taxes in Karnataka and other Best Practices undertaken by various State Governments will be presented in the symposium.
