Meet fails as students, Dir refuse to budge

The cease-work agitation by the PG students at the VIMSAR severely affected health services in the medical college hospital (MCH) adding to the worry of the medial authorities as well as the district administration.

For the last three days, the students have been continuing the cease work demanding removal of Director Dr Aswini Pujahari for his autocratic attitude. They are also sitting in dharna in the medical premises to put pressure on the Government to fulfill their demand.

The district administration convened a meeting to bring about a solution to the problem, but to no effect since both sides remained stubborn in their demands. Sambalpur Collector Samarth Verma, SP Sanjeev Arora, MlA Dr Raseswari Panigrahi, medial superintendent Dr Brajamohan Mishra, Principal Dr RC Samantray and representatives of the students were present in the meeting. But no solution could come out, sources said.

It is further learnt that a four- member delegation of the PG students union called on the Health Minister Paratap Jena over the issue on Tuesday. “We met the Health Minister at Bhubaneswar on Tuesday and apprised him of the details. The Minister has assured us to bring the matter to the notice of the Chief Minister and make an amicable solution,” said Himansu Mishra, a representative of the PG students.

“But the Minister didn’t give us any concrete assurance. Hence, there is no option left before us than to continue the cease work,” he added.

To make the situation further serious, the senior resident doctors of VIMSAR have extended support to the agitation of the PG students.
