Medical representatives stage dharna in Brahmapur

A large number of medical representatives, who are members of the Odisha Sales Representatives’ Union (OSRU) are on a dharna in front of the office of the Revenue Divisional Commissioner (Southern) here since Monday demanding withdrawal of the restrictions imposed on their entry into the different Government medical college and hospitals.

They point out that according to the guidelines of the Central Government, the medical representatives have the right to enter any medical college, hospital, nursing home or dispensary and can seek an interview with any doctors to appraise them about their products, compositions and ingredients, procedures for taking a particular product and its benefits to patients.

The directive of the RDC imposing restrictions on the entry of the medical representatives in medical college and hospital is not legally tenable as such an order would  encourage Dalals (mediators) to exploit the innocent rural patients who come from far-off places, said OSRU leaders.

The dharna is led, among others, by OSRU joint general secretary Baikunthanath Sahu, secretary Nrushingh Prasad Brahma, district secretary Suryanarayan Patra, district president A Bhabani Sankar Patra and senior most member Madhusudan Behera.
