Dealing with media is just like riding a tiger; you have to keep on with it. Once you fall, you are under the mercy of the tiger, said former Ambassador of India to Hungary Malay Mishra while delivering a special lecture on ‘Media and Public Diplomacy’ at the Central University of Orissa (CUO) on Wednesday.
Sharing his vast experience as a diplomat, Mishra made it clear on how to engage media tactfully in day-to-day life and steps to handle journalists. He talked about foreign policy, political diplomacy, economic diplomacy and public diplomacy with recent anecdotes. “Media is inalienable part of life, befriend with them,” he pointed out.
Enlightening the students of Journalism and Mass Communication, CUO Vice-Chancellor Prof Sachidananda Mohanty stated that media should not misinform, it should always be truthful and transparent. He advised the aspiring journalists to be specialized in a particular beat and to create space for specialized reports, “We must go hand in hand with the media,” he said.
Journalism and Mass Communication HoD Dr Pradosh Kumar Rath Assistant Professor Sourav Gupta also spoke.
