Hundreds of midday meal workers under the banner of the Nikhila Odisha MDM Pachika Sahayika Sangh on Monday took out a procession from Tinimuhani to the district Collectorate and later staged a dharna before the Collectorate demanding immediate intervention of the State Government to fulfil their 11-point charter of demands.
The agitators slammed the Government for not considering the genuine demands of poor cooks and their assistants. Their demands include issuing of identity cards, provision of insurance and minimum Rs 3,000 monthly salary, leave during sickness, provision of pending salaries and the status of Government employee, introduction of dress code and provision of two pair of Sarees for this, etc.
The Sangh members also threatened to resort to agitation in coming days if their demands are not met at the earliest.
