The IWSS (Integrated Water Supply Scheme ) has been operational in Lingaraj Area of MCL since 2010 and before this, it was in the custody of Talcher Area management. The main objective of the IWSS is to supply purified drinking water to all established colonies under different areas of MCL and their peripheral villages.
Around 14 big water pumps are being engaged for supplying of drinking water. Everything was in a right order from mechanical equipment to water purified materials at the time of handing over the IWSS plant from Talcher Area in the year 2010. But after that no registers are maintained concerning stocks of materials and mechanical equipment etc.
Sources said several irregularities and malpractices are committed by a Foreman of Lingaraj Area who has been posted at the IWSS for last 25 years but so far he has managed to go scot-free. Though all the maintenance works of machineries, purchase of materials and day-to-day AMC are being carried out in pen and paper, but due to a nexus of some dishonest officers, all the illegalities are swept under the carpet. It is alleged that the MCL is losing crores of rupees for the massive irregularities. The inhabitants of the MCL colonies and its periphery villages are not getting sufficient purified drinking water throughout the year. Every day complaint regarding shortage of drinking water is lodged before the management of Lingaraj Area, but the authority does not pay any heed.
In the meanwhile, on a complaint filed by TKKMS (BMS) secretary Manoranjan Pradhan, the Chief Vigilance Officer, MCL headquarters, Burla, has directed the Lingaraj Area authority to take action against the corrupt staffers.
However, the General Manager, Lingaraj Area was yet to take action on the issue even after a week to getting the direction. Union leader and complainant Pradhan has expressed concern over the matter and demanded that the corrupt officials be brought to books soon.
