The Mahanadi Coalfields limited (MCl) and leading mine owner Indrani Patnaik of Keonjhar have emerged as the top income tax payers in the State in the corporate and individual categories, respectively, during 2012-13.
A sum of Rs8643.7 crore was collected from the State as income tax, which is 18 per cent more than the previous year.
Around Rs6,000 crore was collected from the corporate sector, and among the individual category taxpayers the mines sector figured in the top, official sources said.
The MCl paid Rs1,900 crore while Indrani Patnaik paid Rs185 crore to the income tax department in advance.
