The Mahanadi Coalfields ltd (MCl) on Friday received the coveted Best HR Practices Award 2014 of the National Institute of Personnel Management. The award was presented by chief guest PA Sangma, MP and former lok Sabha Speaker, to MCl CMD AN Sahay along with Director (Personnel) PC Panigrahi in the presence of international management guru Michael A Potter of the United Kingdom in Kolkata. The MCl was adjudged the winner in the category for organisations having more than 2,500 employees out-beating Navratna companies. The MCl has initiated an innovative scheme wherein non-trained land losers employed under the R&R Policy are sent for a two-year technical skill development course at the company’s cost, after which they would be absorbed as skilled manpower.

The company aims to train all its manpower (traditionally coal companies have a majority of unskilled manpower) into a trained workforce to meet the growing demands in the country.
