The Medical Council of India (MCI) would not reduce the number of MBBS seats in the SCB Medical College here for the next academic session, said the college authorities on Sunday.
“We don’t think there will be cut in seats. We are already admitting 250 students. The MCI may not give permission for intake of 250 students in MBBS in the 2017-18 academic year if there is shortfall in infrastructure. I don’t think that will happen as we have complied with the requirements,” college Dean and Principal Prof Siddhartha Das said.
During an MCI team’s last visit to the State’s premier Government-run medical college in September this year, it had pointed out several infrastructural deficiencies.
“We have constructed new buildings as per the guidelines laid by the MCI. The MCI team would visit the medical college in February next,” Prof Das added.
Notably, the MCI had accepted the State Government’s proposal of increasing the number of MBBS course seats from 150 to 250 in the SCB Medical College from the 2013-14 academic year.
