A four-member team of the Medical Council of India (MCI) on Monday inspected the Jaring-based Sardar Rajas Medical College in Kalahandi district and took stock of its infrastructure, faculty members and financial status.
The team is also scheduled to interact with the aggrieved 124 students whose fate still hangs in balance.
This year, the MCI has withdrawn its recognition and affiliation to the college on ground of poor infrastructure and inadequate faculty strength.
Recently, the Odisha High Court had directed the State Government to accommodate the 124 students in other medical colleges in the State.
In the wake of the High Court’s verdict and following months-long agitation by both students and citizens, the Union Health Ministry had asked the State Government to send a fresh proposal regarding admission of the students and maintained that if the college authorities submitted an undertaking announcing closure of the college then permission might be granted for admission of the students in other colleges.
Complying with the order, the Health Department had stated that an FIR has been lodged against the Kalahandi college authorities and three private Bhubaneswar-based medical colleges have agreed to accommodate the students of this college.
