MCI rejects VSS seat increase proposal

Published on:

Apprehensions over the fate of the proposal to increase seats in the VSS Medical College at Burla in Sambalpur district in the current academic session have now become real as the Medical Council of India has summarily rejected the move.

It may be recalled that the State Government had announced an increase of 100 seats each in the VSS and Brahmapur-based MKCG Medical Colleges from the 2014-15 academic session.

Accordingly, the Government had sent a proposal to the MCI to add 100 seats to the existing 150 seats in the VSS Medical College. MCI sources said that the proposal was rejected as the State Government did not submit it in the proper format.

However, no clarification has been issued by the State Government so far, thus giving rise to suspicion that the announcement may have been made only as a publicity stunt.
