A tribal couple was brutally killed by miscreants in Mayurbhanj district on Sunday night.
According to reports, the unidentified miscreants called Madhu Kola (45) while he was asleep along with his wife Somabari (37) and children after having dinner at their Jimuti village under the Raruan police limits.
After Madhu opened the door, the assailants hauled him outside and started assaulting him. They also did not spare Madhu’s wife when she protested the act and attacked the duo with sharp weapons and crushed their heads with stone till they were dead.
The couple’s 12-year-old son Sagar was also attacked when he came to protect his parents. He has been admitted to the Raruan Community Health Centre (CHC) in a critical condition.
Raruan police station IIC Pradeep Chandra Kekerta and Rairangpur Additional SP Gobinda Chandra Mallick reached the village on Monday to probe the incident. A scientific team from Baripada with a sniffer dog also reached the village. The cause of the murder was yet to be ascertained.
