Mayurbhanj, by far the largest district of Odisha, is now gearing up for the three-tier Panchayat polls.
The district administration is making all necessary arrangements to hold these elections in all the 5,383 booths spread across 26 blocks of four sub-divisions in the district.
There are, in all, 56 Zila Parishad Zones here, while the numbers of Panchayat Samiti Members, Sarpanches and Ward Members to be elected from this district are 404, 404 and 5,383 respectively. The voting for all these posts will be held on February 13, 17, 19 and 21 in four phases. Voters will cast their votes on these dates from 7 am to 12 am noon.
Meanwhile, an urgent meeting chaired by district Collector Rajesh Prabhakar Patil was held to take stock of the poll preparedness, with a view to conducting this electoral exercise in a smooth and fair manner.
Different political parties here are found to be busy finalising their lists of candidates and also election strategies for the upcoming elections.
