The recent skyrocketing prices of potato have forced many to skip any side item with rice. Potato is highly essential in making curry or dal or any other item to be taken with rice. But its pinching prices have compelled many poor people to leave it.
After the Phailin and floods, life has gone very wretched for the people. Onion prices were dearly even before Phailin but after the storm and floods, the situation has gone worse as prices of all vegetables have gone up incredibly. The West Bengal Government has stopped sending of potato outside after the cyclone, which has created scarcity of potato in the local market. As a result, potato prices have now jumped to Rs 25-Rs 30 per kg. Meanwhile, Mayurbhanj Collector has assured to curb hoarding of potato and other commodities in the market to ease off the prices.
