Vigilance officials on Thursday arrested Block Accounts Manager Arijit Jena of the Kuliana Community Health Centre in Mayurbhanj district for demanding and accepting bribe of Rs 2,000 from Sahagi Soren, a multipurpose health worker at the Chandua Public Health Centre in the district.
The complainant alleged that she had been on maternity leave for six months and had submitted her VHND (Village Health Nutrition Day) bill amounting to Rs 24,000 to the CHC Medical Officer which was kept with Jena. When Soren requested Jena to process the paper, the latter demanded Rs 4,000 as bribe. When Soren expressed his inability to pay the amount, Jena reduced it to Rs 2,000.
later, the health worker reported the matter to Vigilance, following which a trap was laid and Jena was caught red-handed.
