The MBBS seats at the SCB Medical College, Cuttack have been increased from 150 to 250. This was informed by Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr Damodar Rout on Wednesday.
With this, the 2013-14 academic session can begin with the increased seats.
The Minister also informed that in 2014 the State Government would send a proposal to the Medical Council of India (MCI) for an increase of 100 MBBS seats each at the MKCG Medical College, Brahmapur and VSS Medical College, Burla.
It may be noted that the State Government had sent a proposal to the MCI for an increase of 100 MBBS seats each in the three State-run medical colleges this year, but the apex body had earlier rejected the proposal citing several flaws in the colleges.
