Nearly 30 children from various slums of the city welcomed newly elected Mayor Ananta Narayan Jena at the BMC office on Tuesday. The children belonged to Salia Sahi, Bisweswar Basti, Science Park, OUAT firm gate Mahisikhal, Sikharchandi, Kargil Basti and Kalpana Medical Basti under the BMC.

Jasmin Nisha, a member of Humara Bachpan Child Club from the Science Park Basti said that they were very much involved in the BMC election process analysing which candidate promises to work for the children after being elected. Besides, India’s representative of the Bernard van leer Foundation Dharitri Patnaik, who works for the young children in the country also welcomed Jena and appreciated his work during his last tenure.

Though BMC has its development and rehabilitation plans, city slums are still far away from proper housing, better electricity, safe drinking water, smooth transport system and better sanitation. The Mayor interacted with over a hundred of children  and assured them to put all his efforts to resolve them.
