Matric papers' evaluation begins amid teachers' protest

Amid boycott by some disgruntled teachers and demonstrations by these groups in front of some centres, the evaluation of this year’s matriculation examination answer scripts went off smoothly on the first day on Sunday in all the 74 evaluation centres spread across the State.

“There was no report of any hitch from any of the centres as evaluation of answer scripts was held between 9 am to 5 pm,” said President of Board of Secondary Education (BSE) DP Nanda. He, however, informed that at some centres demonstrations were held by members of Block Grant Secondary School Teachers’ and Employees’ Association, who are protesting against what they called “Government apathy” towards them.

“We have requisitioned services of at least 23,000 experienced teachers to evaluate the answer scripts. While some more teachers are joining for evaluation, the boycott by a few teachers owing allegiance to the association will not hamper the process,” Nanda said, adding that the evaluation process would end on March 27 and the results are likely to be published in the first week of May.

For the first time, this year the evaluation processes at some centres are being recorded on videos in order to keep a vigil and remove handicaps, if any. “like during the examinations earlier, the area around 100 meters from the evaluation centres is out of bound for any public,” he informed.

This year, at least six lakh students have appeared at the matriculation examinations in both Regular and Ex-Regular streams, which were held between February 25 and March 9.
