Matric exams: No top 100 list from this year

Published on:

In a bid to spare the students stress, the School and Mass Education Department has decided to do away with the practice of publishing the top 100 list while declaring the High School Certificate (HSC) (matriculation) examinations results from this year.

The move is seen as yet another reform in the matric examination system, which witnessed the introduction of question-cum-answer booklet and allowing students to appear at the examinations in their own schools starting this year.

“We believe the top 100 list creates discrimination among students and in later stage demoralises them. Non-declaration of the list will help the students be stress-free, which is very important in this highly competitive age,” School and Mass Education Department Secretary Usha Padhee said.

The department aims to announce the results in the last week of this month. Besides, from this year, the students will be able to get both pass and migration certificates within seven days of the publication

of results.

“If students face any doubt regarding their results, they can approach the Board of Secondary Education’s (BSE) 12-hour helpline,” added Padhee.

According to BSE officials, it will conduct the HSC supplementary examinations in May and publish the results in the last week of June.
