Gun salutes at the DPO ground of Malkangiri district police headquarters on Wednesday marked the tributes paid to the 17 police martyrs who lost their lives in a landmine blast while on anti-Maoist operation in the interior MV-126 village under the Kalimela police station on July 16, 2008.
While paying the tributes, district SP Akhileswar Singh, SDPO Pinaki Mishra and other senior police officials remembered the bravery of the police jawans. The jawans who lost their lives were on a combing operation led by Reserve Inspector Sarat Chandra Mishra. The situation became emotional when police officers recalled the memories of that dark day.
