Marshaghai College union polls cancelled

Published on:

Tension prevailed at the Marshaghai College in Kendrapada district on Saturday as students went on a rampage in the college premises protesting cancellation of the students’ union elections.

The students got infuriated after the college authorities announced not to hold the polls. They destroyed furniture and equipment in the principal’s office, science laboratory and the staff common room.

As a result, the authorities closed the college for an indefinite period from Saturday.

Kendrapada SDPO Purna Chandra Pradhan and the Marshaghai PS IIC rushed to the spot with a team of police force and managed to pacify the irate students.

The SDPO said the situation at the college was under control. Two platoons of police have been deployed to avert any untoward incident, he informed.

The cost of properties damaged by the students would not be less than Rs5 lakh, police said.
