A woman lost her leg and a man sustained critical injuries as a train hit them at the Rajghat railway station in Baleswar district on Sunday.
The victims, identified as Bharati Sahu (22) of Ramachandrapur village under the Jaleswar police limits and Deepak Sahu of nearby Bantuli village, were rescued by the Government Railway Police (GRP) and admitted to the Basta Community Health Centre.
They were later shifted to the Baleswar District Headquarters Hospital as their conditions deteriorated.
The mishap took place when both were walking on the railway track in the morning and the train hit them, reports said.
Police, however, said the case was under investigation and the victims’ statements couldn’t be recorded as they were undergoing treatment.
“The husband of Bharati had lodged a “missing” compliant with us on Thursday,” said Jaleswar PS IIC Pradip Majhi.
Bharati, who married Chittranjan Sahu in November last year, was missing from her in-laws’ house since Thursday afternoon.
Chittaranjan, who works in a private company in Bhubaneswar, had been informed by his elder brother about her missing.
“Although I don’t know Deepak Sahu found with my wife, I strongly suspect she had an extramarital affair with the man. There was marital dispute between us although we were married for one year. The mishap occurred while she was eloping with Deepak,” said Chittaranjan.
