With a view to planning out the requirements on infrastructure and human resources front, the Odisha police would undertake mapping of both sectors for the police stations.
Principal Secretary, Home CJ Venugopal has asked DGP Sanjeev Marik to go in for such a mapping for the police system. Taking stock of the Working Plan of the Odisha Police, Venugopal has advised Marik to chart out the infrastructure requirements of the police on a long-term basis. The lions share of the Home Department’s budget of over Rs3,050 crore is meant for
the police.
The proposed mapping of the infrastructure requirements would help the department ascertain the necessity of the police organisation both on short-term and long-term basis, an official said.
While there are 600 police stations in the State, a number of them still continue to function in rented accommodations. Similarly, offices of most of the SDPOs are being run from rented spaces. So, the requirements of barracks and residential quarters for police personnel need to be mapped in a proper manner, said the official. Equally important is human resources mapping, said he, adding that the requirement of police personnel varies from one police station to the other.
The requirements of the police stations in the Maoist areas are more in comparison to the other police stations. Similarly, the police stations in the industrial zones require much more personnel than those in rural areas. With both the Union and State Governments giving thrust on anti-Maoist operations, there is a need of more armed battalions.
All these requirements need scientific mapping so that human resource constraints can be resolved in a planned, time-bound manner, said the official.
