Maoists have again put up posters at various places in Malkangiri district threatening the tribals to boycott the panchayat elections.
According to reports, the posters were found from the Chitrakonda area of the district in which the Malkangiri District Divisional Committee of the outlawed CPI(Maoist) has asked the tribals not to cast their votes.
Besides, the Red extremists have warned the locals not to contest in the elections.
The development came a few days after five election officials were released from Maoist captivity after production before a Praja Court in Chitrakonda block in the cutoff region of the district. They were threatened not to work for the polls.
It may be recalled the Maoists had on January 10 also put up posters in Malkangiri warning the tribals to abstain from the polls. The posters were found in Kudumulugumma They also warned that those who would contest in the elections would face death punishment at Praja Courts. The ultras had further warned that thumbs of those casting their votes would be chopped off.
