Maoists urge M'giri people to boycott polls

The Communist Party of India (Maoist) Malkangiri Division has appealed to the people of the district to boycott the coming General Elections protesting the Government’s apathy towards development of their region.

Maoist leader Rukdhar in an interview with a TV channel said the elected representatives just forget the people after winning the elections. They never visit their areas to inquire about the conditions of the people.

He said that despite repeated demands, the State Government has not taken any steps to provide basic amenities including water supply, road connectivity, proper execution of welfare programmes, healthcare, Indira Awas Yojana and launch service to the cutoff areas.

“If the Government doesn’t take any concrete steps to solve basic problems of the common people, why should the people of the area cast votes for their representatives,” questioned Rukdhar, adding, “The MlAs and MPs never visit their areas after getting elected.” Rukdhar said the Government is trying to suppress the people’s movement by arresting their leaders branding them as Maoists. “By using military forces, the Government has created terror in the cutoff area (of Malkangiri),” he added.
