After a long break, Maoists from the Basadhara-Ghumusar-Nagavali division have again unleashed a reign of terror in Khambesu village of Gumma gram panchayat under the Rayagada block.

Around 25-30 cadres of the Red rebel group, including three women, rushed into the village on Thursday early morning, drained out diesel from the stranded vehicles and put on fire three tractors, a tractor trolley, one Hitachi shovel, one motorbike belonging to a contractor engaged in the construction of a road from Khambesu to Kusumguda under Pradhan Mantri Sadak Yojana Scheme.

The Maoists left a poster there which warned not to construct the road which would ultimately benefit the metal company RSB Metaltech. The company is planning to establish a bauxite refinery nearby. The local tribals are also protesting the company and, in the past, they had also torched the tent put up by the said company during a public hearing.

SP Rajesh Pandit rushed to the spot and beefed up the combing operation.
