Maoists torch Sunabeda CRPF ration van

The Maoists in Sunabeda plateau of Nuapada district have shown their strength again by burning a pickup van carrying rations to the CRPF camp located at Sunabeda.

The incident occurred at about 11 am on Thursday near Gadagada village located at a distance of 5 km from the CRPF camp at Jamgaon village.

It is learnt that there was no police convoy to guard the van. Taking this as an opportunity, the Maoists first opened fired at the van, and when the vehicle’s driver and the helper fled the place, they burnt the van. Three tractors also loaded with rations, which were following the van at a distance, managed to come back from the spot.

The Nuapada police informed that there was an exchange of fire between the jawans and the Maoists. But this information was denied by the locals, saying that the force arrived at the scene after the Maoists had left the place after burning the vehicle.
