Maoists burnt the machineries of a construction company working on a PMGSY road in Nuapada district on Saturday night.
About 15 Maoists equipped with guns arrived in the company's camp located in Sirigidi village of Kendubahara gram panchayat near Dharambandha Outpost under Nuapada Police Station at about 11 pm and asked the caretakers to leave the camp before setting the machineries in fire.
They were opposing Operation Green Hunt by the forces. The members of the outlawed group torched three water tankers, two mixture machines and a roller machine used in road construction.
However, no one was injured in the incident. Meanwhile, security forces have intensified combing operation in the area. Panic gripped the area as the Reds struck while people were collecting essentials from the weekly market on Sunday morning.
Soon after the incident, the employees of the construction company have reportedly fled from the spot fearing Maoist onslaught.
Red posters were found hanging near the village in which the rebels have asked people to raise their voice against fake police encounters in Kalahandi and Sunabeda. Besides, they have demanded withdrawal of security personnel and special forces engaged in anti-Maoist operations, a halt to Operation Green Hunt and the proposed use of drones during the operations.
The banners were undersigned by Odisha State Committee of the CPI (Maoist). Meanwhile, the Maoists have called for a bandh in Nuapada and Kalahandi on January 8.
