Maoists to observe 'Black Day' on Aug 15

With the CPI(Maoist) calling to observe Independence Day as a ‘Black Day’, the administration has decided to beef up security in vulnerable districts to contain any law and order situation that might arise on the day.

Notably, two bodies of suspected Maoists were recovered from the Madaguda forest under the Tumudibandha police station in Kandhamal district after a gun battle between security personnel and Maoists July 26.

At least eight Maoist camps were destroyed in the border area of Kandhamal and Kalahandi districts and the security forces had seized a huge cache of arms and ammunitions.

later Maoist pamphlets found in these bordering areas stated that the two killed were a innocent couple.

They were killed when they were talking to their sons, who were working as labourers at Kerala, by security personnel belonging to the Special Operation Group (SOG), CRPF and the District Voluntary Force (DVF). They were identified as Dhuba Nayak and his wife Bhubudi Nayak of Pangalpadar of Kotagada area in Kandhamal district.

Kalahandi SP Brijesh Rai said Maoists may resort to violence acts in Kalahandi and its boarding districts by targeting security forces and Government properties, including roads, railways and telecommunication infrastructure. The outfit may cause road blockades by felling trees in its strongholds and is likely to hoist black flags and banners on Government buildings and other public places, he said.

The SP said an alert has also been sounded in the Kalahandi-Kandhamal border areas to prevent any infiltrations ahead of the Independence Day.

Security arrangements have been stepped up in town areas and violence prone areas, he said.
