A day after Maoists killed a villager slitting his throat on the suspicion of being a police informer in Malkangiri district, the Red rebels on Monday again made their presence felt in the cutoff region of the district.
The Maoists held a Kangaroo court at Panasput and beat three villagers mercilessly alleging that they were police informers.
Sources said the ultras dragged former Pansput Sarpanch Arjun Hantal and two of his associates from their houses and produced them in the Kangaroo court held inside the forest outside the village.
The ultras warned them of dire consequences if they cooperate with the police and pass any information about them, sources added. later, they released the trio. The incident has terrified the villagers.
Notably, recently the Maoists’ PlGA Week had passed off peacefully without any untoward incident due to the vigil maintained by Central paramilitary forces, the Special Operations Group and the local police. So, the Maoists want to make their presence felt in the cutoff region, which the security forces find it difficult to reach because of the inhospitable terrain, said senior police officials.
