Reported secret meetings held by Maoists at Jangidiri village of Ramjori gram panchayat under lathikata block in Sundargarh district, 20 km from here, seems to have put the police on their toes.
Source said about 30 to 32 armed Maoists conducted meetings with the villagers for two days on Saturday and Sunday. The Red rebels reportedly asked village youths to join their camp for the benefit of their villages and threatened them of dire consequences if they inform about their presence to the police.
Though no official complaint has been made, the lathikata police knowing about the rebels’ presence from certain sources have tightened the security in the area. It may be noted that five to six days ago, a group of Maoists had also conducted a similar meeting at Chandiposh under Gurundia block.
