Maoists kill two tribals in M'giri

Published on:

Barely hours after two of the senior-most officials of the Border Security Force (BSF) reviewed the security situation in this Maoist-infested district, the Red rebels shot dead two persons, including a village head, suspecting them to be police informers, at Badaliguda village under the Kalimela police station in the wee hours on Friday.

The deceased were identified as Deba Padiami (30) and Ganga Madkami (45).A group of about 30 armed Maoists stormed the village at around 1 am and searched for the two victims. After dragging the two persons out of their houses, they shot them from pointblank range, police said. The police denied that the two deceased were police informers and dubbed their killing as “an attempt to terrorise tribals”.

Malkangiri Superintendent of Police (SP) Akhileswar Singh said police officials and an anti-Maoist operations squad were rushed to the spot to initiate a probe. The Maoists were angry with the villagers as they had stopped cooperating with them ever since a BSF camp was set up three km from the village in 2013.

It may be noted that BSF ADG Sharma had visited the district on Thursday to review the anti-Maoist operations.
