Maoists kill Naib Sarpanch in Malkangiri

In yet another incident of Maoist violence in Malkangiri district, the ultras killed Buduram Durua, the Naib Sarpanch of Mahupadar village under the Mathili police station.

The body of the deceased was found near a water tank at Mahupadar on Saturday morning, said Malkangiri SP Akhilesh Singh. The Maoists might have killed the naib sarpanch suspecting him to be a police informer, added SP. The incident coincided with the visit of Director General of Police Prakash Mishra to the district headquarters on Friday to review the operations against the Maoists in the State’s worst-leftwing extremist-hit district. He, however, remarked that the Maoist activities in the State are on the decline.

On Thursday night, the Maoists had abducted three natives of Mahupadar. However, two of them returned home safely after their ‘trial’ at a Praja Court while the deceased was missing since then.

Earlier on April 24, the Maoists had killed two persons and released another after abducting them from Kyang village under the same Mathili police station. They had also murdered them suspecting them as police informers.
