Even as Maoist menace in the State is under control yet Red rebels’ infiltration from bordering States remains a challenge for the police.
DGP KB Singh, who was on a two-day visit to Ganjam district, said this at a Press conference here on Monday. Sing said Maoists’ presence is still felt in 19 out of 30 districts of the State. “Though the Maoist problem is under control in Odisha, yet we face a challenge as Red rebels are coming from Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and Andra Pradesh and indulging in various activities,” he said.
He said nine districts, including Angul, Sonepur and Boudh, have been identified as the “Maoist-infested” at present.
He said more police forces would be deployed in the Maoist-infested areas soon.
To a question, the DGP said preparations are still on to put in place a Commisstionerate Police system in the city.
He further informed that an SP would soon be appointed for the Brahmampur police district. “The police department is running short of staffs. I hope this will be resolved in three-four months’ time,” he said.
IG Amitav Thakur said the traffic problem in the city would be shorted out soon.
During his stay, the DGP held discussions with SPs of Ganjam, Gajapati, Boudh and Kandhamal districts on Maoist and other issues.
