In yet another incident of senseless killing, a villager of Panasputa was shot dead allegedly by Maoists after dubbing him as a police informer on Sunday.

The deceased, identified as Sama Pangi, was shot at near the Chitrakonda Ghat by eight to 10 Maoists, who had reportedly come by a motorboat they had looted along with the groceries earlier. Pangi had been staying in Chitrakonda for past two years after he was asked by the Maoists to leave his native village.

The deceased used to operate the motorboat, which was used for ferrying police and security personnel.

The incident has triggered shockwaves among the locals. The police have launched combing operations in the area.

Meanwhile, after the Maoists looted two boats laden with groceries meant for BSF personnel of the Kunturpadar camp six days ago, rations were transported by a Pawan Hans helicopter to the camp on Sunday.

The chopper will remain stationed in the district for the time being and “If need arises, it will be utilised for anti-Maoist operations”, said Malkangiri SP Jagmohan Meena.

On October 16, the ultras had looted rations meant for BSF personnel after intercepting the boats at the Kotagoda Ghat.
