The CPI(Maoists) on Sunday claimed responsibility for the hijacking of a boat laden with ration for BSF personnel near Totapadar in the cutoff region of the district.
In a letter, the Maoists have mentioned that the loot was to protest the Andhra Pradesh police’s arrest of three innocent villagers from Andarapalli panchayat in the district in the name of Maoist cadres.
Earlier, the police used to stand by the people in difficult times, but now have changed their attitude and are least bothered about the villagers’ plight, alleged the Maoists in the letter.
The ultras gheraoed the Kunturpadar police station protesting arrest of the innocent youths, but when police didn’t release the arrested persons, they robbed all the grocery items being transported by a powerboat to the Kunturpadar police camp. Notably, after the incident, rations for police and security personnel was airlifted by a helicopter to the BSF camp as a precautionary measure.
