Maoists call bandh in six Odisha, C'garh districts

Published on:

The Dhamteri-Nuapada Divisional Committee of the Maoists has called for a total bandh of six districts on the borders of Odisha and Chhattisgarh on March 16 condemning the killing of one of their cadres, Surath, and the arrest of two other members, Mithila and Ramsinha, on Tuesday.

Through a Press release, the Commander of the Dhamteri-Nuapada Division has claimed that the Kalahandi police have arrested the above cadres but have not made it public. “The police have neither court-forwarded the arrested persons nor have made the arrest public even after a lapse of more than 24 hours; so we apprehend danger to the lives of our cadres,” the audio release said.

It is learnt that the cadres were arrested from Bhandar Kachhar village of Kamlabari GP in Golamunda block of Kalahandi district. However, though the Kalahandi police have confirmed the death of Surath in a police combing operation, they have denied arrest of two cadres. The Maoists have called for a bandh of Nuapada, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur districts of Odisha and Dhamteri, Kanker and Gariabandh districts of Chhattisgarh.
