Two Maoists allegedly barged into the Tarkera High School under the Rajgangpur police station in the district late on Thursday night and attempted to extort Rs 2 lakh from its headmaster by brandishing guns.
At around 2.30 pm, the Maoists also threatened Headmaster loknath Pradhan to kill him if he fails to give the money within next five days. After that, the duo fled from the spot.
Since the two were speaking in Hindi, Headmaster Pradhan suspected that they were Maoists and later lodged a complaint at the police station.
Acting on the complaint, the police began an investigation into the incident to ascertain whether they were Maoists or some miscreants who were masquerading as Maoists.
