Maoists abducted three residents of Mahulapadara village under the Mathili police limits in Malkangiri district on Thursday night.
The incident took place even as the Director General of Police Prakash Mishra camped in the neihbouring Koraput district to review the progress of the anti-Maoist operations in the southern region and claimed that the activities of the leftwing ultras are being increasingly curbed. He also left for Malkangiri district on Friday.
The Maoists may have abducted the three villagers suspecting them to be police informers, said Malkangiri SP.
Earlier on April 24, the ultras had killed two persons and released another after abducting them from Kyang village under the same Mathili police station. They murdered the duo suspecting them as police informers and blew up a telephone tower there.
