Maoist supporters oppose Gurupriya

The newly-inaugurated Gurupriya Bridge is not a bridge for development; rather it is path towards destruction, alleged thousands of Maoist sympathisers in a camp organised by Red rebels in Malkangiri district on Tuesday.

They also demanded compensation for those who have been affected by the recent flooding caused by early release of water from the Balimela reservoir.

The camp was attended by Maoist sympathisers from nearly five panchayats of the district, sources said.

Agricultural land in the cutoff areas, which have been named as ‘Swabhiman Anchal’, is still inundated while no steps have been taken by Government officials to pay compensation for crop loss, they said.

Earlier, the Maoists had opposed the bridge in two separate camps organised in Ralegada panchayat Malkangiri and Basuguda forest area and Korukunda in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh in the month of July and August, respectively.
