A Maoist team led by Odisha State committee secretary of CPI(Maoist) Modem Balkrishnan alias Manoj managed to escape from the anti-Maoist operation site in the Jugsaipatna Reserve Forest area of Kalahandi district, police sources said on Tuesday.
Kalahandi SP Brijesh Rai said an exchange of fire between the SOG jawans and the ultras took place inside the reserve forest for about 30 minutes. After the fire exchange, the red rebels abandoned their camp and escaped. “It was the fifth encounter between the police and the Maoists in the district this year,” Rai added.
Security personnel seized huge quantities of items including kits, medicine stock, 24 detonators, one tiffin bomb and Maoist literature from the abandoned camp.
In Nuapada district, the security personnel seized a huge cache of explosives and Maoist materials from a hideout in a forest near Dangarpada under the Komna police limits on Tuesday.
