A Maoist was killed in an exchange of fire between Red extremists and security forces in the cutoff area of Chitrakonda in Malkangiri district early on Friday morning.
A self-loading rifle (SlR), bullets and Maoist literatures were been seized from the spot.
According to police sources, a Maoist camp was spotted during a joint combing operation of SOG and DVF jawans in the luchapani forest under Badapada panchayat of the Chitrakonda area.
While the security forces were heading towards the camp, the Maoists opened fire at the jawans. In retaliation, the security forces also fired, resulting in a Maoist’s death on the spot.
Till last reports came in, the exchange of fire was continuing.
