Maoist ideologue Dandapani walks out of Brahmapur jail

Two days after the Orissa High Court granted him bail, Maoist ideologue Dandapani Mohanty on Thursday walked out the Brahmapur Circle Jail on Thursday evening.

He came out the jail with his lawyer Prashant Jena. Wearing a black badge in face, Mohanty held a placard in his hand which maintained that he and his family were victimised by the Government. However, he did not share anything with the mediapersons waiting outside the jail. On Tuesday, the High Court had granted him conditional bail on the last and final of the 24 cases filed by the Odisha police.

Arrested on sedition charges in February 2013, the 70-year-old Maoist sympathiser was lodged in the Brahmapur jail.

Along with the sedition charges, Mohanty was implicated in 24 cases by the State police, most of which were related to Maoist violence.

While the trial court had acquitted him in 19 cases, the High Court had earlier granted him bail in the remaining four cases.
