The State Government is yet to support the tribal families of the cutoff region of Malkangiri district who deserted their villages fearing Maoists’ diktat.
The tribals, who are sandwiched between Maoists’ threat and Government apathy, are at the crossroads. They are roaming from village to village for shelter.
About 60 tribal families of Andrapalli and Panasput villages under Kudumuluguma block had left their villages two days ago. They had met Malkangiri SP Mitrabhanu Mohapatra in his office on Wednesday and requested him to provide them adequate protection against the Maoists.
The tribals said they have been forced to leave their village as the Maoists have been torturing innocent tribals and threatening to kill them. They pleaded the district administration to help them in this condition, but nothing happened till the report is written.
Sources said the local administration had also assured the tribals to rehabilitate the runaway tribals, but what happened to their promises nobody knows.
“If this type of drama prevails for a few more days, the tribals will not come out of their villages to support the State Government’s move against Maoists,” said the activists.
