As Maoists continue to rule the roost in the cutoff region of Chitrakonda in Malkangiri district, families are fleeing their homes out of fear of the Red rebels.
Seven families of Sanyasiguda village under Andrapalli panchayat in the cutoff region deserted their homes on Saturday fearing Maoist attack and sought shelter at the Kudumulugumma police station, police said.
‘Thirty-three persons of seven families of Sanyasiguda have deserted the village out of fear of Maoists. For the last one year, families have been deserting villages in the cutoff region. However, Maoists are losing their support base in this area. Food and shelter have been arranged for the displaced persons. The district administration has been requested for their rehabilitation,’ said Malkangiri SP Mitrabhanu Mohapatra. Notably, earlier, around 100 families had fled their homes in the cutoff region out of fear of Maoists.
