Security forces on Thursday busted a Maoist camp following an exchange of fire in the Lubengarh Reserve Forest under the Madanpur Rampur police station in Kalahandi district.

Acting on a tipoff, District Voluntary Force (DVF) and Special Operations Group (SOG) jawans were combing in the jungle from Wednesday night. But around 11 am on Thursday, they were fired at the rebels of the KKBN Division. Due to the difficult terrain, the police had to face difficulties but they retaliated in self-defence, said Kalahandi SP Abilash G.

The ultras fled from the spot. The police during search seized three IEDs, a booby trap, detonators, daily use items and Maoist literature.

Police said around 30 Maoist were present in the camp and it was suspected that senior cadres like Nikhil, Bunty, Dasru and Mamta were among them.

The SP said the combing operation has been further intensified to flush out the rebels from the region.
