Police have busted a Maoist camp in the Chandli Reserve Forest near Sunamudi village under the Lathore police station in Balangir district following an encounter.

Acting on a tipoff about the Maoist presence in the Chandali Forest, two Special Operations Group (SOG) teams were rushed to the spot on April 22 night. On Thursday morning, the security personnel managed to locate the camp belonging to the BBM Division of Maoists.

But when they asked the ultras to surrender, they were fired upon. Following which there was an exchange of fire. Police fired about 20 rounds but the rebels managed to escape from the spot taking advantage of the thick forests and hilly terrain.

Later, police recovered some ammunition, daily use items like grocery, utensils from the spot, said Balangir SP Sandeep Sampat here on Friday.

When asked about casualties and injuries to anyone, Sampat said nothing can be said conclusively now.
