Acting on the Supreme Court order, the Bargarh district administration has started eviction drives to free encroached Government land in Bargah town.
However, eviction of vendors from along the National Highway in Bargarh town has been strongly opposed by concerned small businessmen. They alleged that the administration is shifting them without making alternative arrangements like vending zones for them.
“We have lost our livelihood sources due to eviction. The administration should provide us vending zones so that we will continue our business for sustenance,” demanded vendors.
By now, many street vendors have been evicted from Haldipali chowk to Vikash School chowk.
Similarly, locals have also alleged that land measurement is being done inaccurately by the Government authorities at the behest of influential persons.
“The Wesco has put up electricity transformers on Government lands. The transformers of the private company should also be shifted as they are putting us in trouble,” argued some locals.
They have demanded that big businessmen, who have either built buildings or extended structures on Government land, should also be evicted and sought a proper inquiry into the alleged erroneous land measurement conducted by the Government authorities.
